Three waves
1999 to 2005
Custom automation
LevelTen started by building custom software that automated how service businesses ran their operations. The lesson from those years still holds: automate the workflow the business actually runs, not the one on the org chart.
2005 to 2023
The web and digital marketing
As the web became every company’s front door, we became a web development and marketing agency. We built hundreds of sites and applications, created Open Enterprise, a Drupal distribution used as the starting point for content-marketing sites, launched the Intelligence analytics product, won industry awards, and hosted conferences on results-oriented web strategy.
2024 onward
AI
We started building with large language models as soon as they could do real work. Today we design, ship, and run AI agents and automation for clients, build AI products of our own, and still build the websites and apps that AI companies launch on.
What has not changed
Every era of LevelTen has been about results, not technology for its own sake. In the web years we called it the Results Oriented Web: start with a measurable business outcome, build the smallest thing that moves it, measure, and iterate. We build AI the same way. One workflow at a time, with evaluation before trust and plain code you own.
The way we bill has not changed either. When we adopted agile in 2008 we stopped quoting big fixed projects and started working in monthly sprints at a set monthly rate. You see what shipped every month, you can change priorities between sprints, and you can stop any month. Seventeen years later it is still the most honest way we know to price work that is meant to evolve.
Who you will work with
LevelTen is led by Tom McCracken, who founded the company in 1999 and has been its lead engineer and strategist through all three waves. Tom personally scopes, builds, and supports every engagement, and brings in specialist collaborators when a project needs them. You will not be handed off to an account manager.
